Arkansas Tech sophomore guard Cara Neighbors was named the Great American Conference Player of the Week after her performance against East Central. The award was announced by the league office Monday.
Neighbors, a 2011 graduate of Lonoke High School, helped the Golden Suns improve to 5-1 overall and 2-0 in GAC play in an 88-61 home win against East Central. She scored a game-high 19 points in 30 minutes of action. She connected on 6-of-9 shots and hit a pair of 3-point field goals. She added three assists as she continues to lead Golden Suns in both scoring and assists. She also added three assists, four rebounds, and went 5-for-5 from the free-throw line.
This gives the Arkansas Tech Golden Suns (5-1, 2-0 GAC) their first GAC Player of the Week award this season.
The Golden Suns will return to action on Dec. 16 and 17 for Rollins Tournament in Winter Park, Fla. Tech will play Rollins at 2 p.m. on Dec. 16 and Bluefield State at 4 p.m. on Dec. 17.
