Rabbits win 3 of 5

The Lonoke Jackrabbits baseball team went 3-2 in its last five games, improving to 5-4 on the season.

Lonoke 4, Brookland 3

The Lonoke Jackrabbits scored three runs late to beat the Brookland Bearcats 4-3 on March 7 at the Lonoke Ball Park.

Lonoke led 1-0 in the first inning. Garrett Spears led off the bottom of the frame with a single and stole second base. He went to third on a ground out by Shane Pepper and scored on a single by Madison James.

The Bearcats scored twice in the second and once in the third to lead 3-1.

The Jackrabbits tied the game at 3-3 with two runs in the bottom of the fifth. Nick Watson singled with two outs and went to second on a passed ball. Christian James walked and they both scored on a double by Zack Risner.

The Jackrabbits took a 4-3 lead in the bottom of the sixth. Pepper singled and eventually scored on a passed ball.

Lonoke’s Guy Halbert faced four batters in the seventh but did not allow a run, earning the win.

Halbert had three strikeouts in three innings of work.

Pepper led Lonoke with three hits. Spears, Madison James and Watson had three hits each.

Beebe 10, Lonoke 1

The Lonoke Jackrabbits lost to Beebe 10-1 on Friday.

Lonoke’s lone run came in the top of the first. With two outs, Blake Gooden walked and scored on a single by Madison James.

The Badgers scored three in the first, five in the second and two in the fifth.

The Jackrabbits had only five hits in the game. Shane Pepper had two while Gooden, Madison James and Christian James had one hit each.

Arkansas Baptist 10, Lonoke 0

The Arkansas Baptist Eagles knocked off Lonoke 10-0 in the UALR Showcase on Saturday at Gary Hogan Field.

The game was scoreless until the third inning when the Eagles scored six runs. They followed that up with four runs in the fourth.

Lonoke had six hits in the loss. Madison James had two while Garrett Spears, Blake Gooden, Guy Halbert and Zack Risner had one hit each.

Lonoke 8, Harding 6

The Lonoke Jackrabbits bounced back with an 8-6 win over Harding Academy.

Lonoke trailed 3-0 after the top of the third. The Jackrabbits then scored five runs in the bottom of the frame to lead 5-3. Guy Halbert had a two-run triple. Zack Risner and Reid McKenzie each had RBI singles. Scoring in the inning were Christian James, Blake Gooden, Halbert, Madison James and Risner.

Lonoke scored twice in the fourth to lead 7-3. Scoring were Shane Pepper and Gooden.

Lonoke scored a single run in the sixth. Pepper led off with a walk and scored on a single by Christian James.

Risner got the win. He struck out two in seven innings of work.

Pepper, Halbert and Risner led Lonoke with two hits each.

Lonoke 5, Riverview 2

The Lonoke Jackrabbits held off Riverview for a 5-2 win Monday.

Lonoke scored twice in the top of the first. Shane Pepper and Blake Gooden each scored.

After a scoreless second, the Jackrabbits plated three runs in the top of the third. Christian James reached on an error and Gooden walked. They both scored on a single by Guy Halbert.

The Raiders scored twice in the sixth.

Garrett Spears got the win, going four innings. He allowed only two base runners while striking out two. Pepper pitched a perfect fifth, striking out all three batters. Halbert gave up two runs in the sixth then Gooden got the save, retiring the Raiders in order in the seventh.
