Lonoke wins 12-year-old district title

The Lonoke 11- and 12-year-old All-Stars won the District 7 Cal Ripken championship. The Lonoke 11- and 12-year-old Cal Ripken All-Stars are district champions.

Lonoke knocked off Brinkley 7-3 to win the District 7 championship last week at the Lonoke Ball Park.

Lonoke finished the tournament undefeated and will play in the South Arkansas State Tournament, beginning Friday in Magnolia.

In the championship game win over Brinkley, Lonoke trailed 1-0 after the first inning.

Lonoke then scored twice in the third inning. Brayden Bryant and Bear Sparks each scored runs.

Brinkley tied the game at 2-2 with a run in the bottom of the third. Lonoke reclaimed the lead at 4-2 with two runs in the top of the fifth. Scoring were Bryant and Will Risner.

Brinkley cut the deficit to 4-3 with a run in the bottom of the fifth. Lonoke pushed its lead to 7-3 with three runs in the top of the sixth. Scoring were Dayleon Rolax, Bryant and Sparks.

In the bottom of the sixth, Brinkley’s first batter reached base but Lonoke retired the next three batters to get the victory.
