Lonoke freshman does well in state swim meet

The Lonoke Lady Jackrabbit swim team finished 19th out of 32 teams in the State Championship swim meet this past weekend, and needed just one swimmer to do it.

Freshman Kayla McGee competed in the 50-yard freestyle and the 100-yard breaststroke races, and showed off in both.

In the 50, McGee finished sixth overall, but in first place among schools Class 5A and below. She was less than a second off the winning time.

McGee finished third in the 100-yard breaststroke with the top three spots all coming from schools Class 5A or smaller.

Bentonville brought a massive and talented group to the meet and won easily with 471 points. Conway was over 200 points behind in second place. Pulaski Academy finished third overall and first among smaller schools. Fayetteville finished fourth, just ahead of fifth place Cabot.

McGee’s point total for Lonoke was enough to put the Lady Jackrabbits ahead of 13 teams in the meet. Twelve of those teams came from schools in a higher classification than Lonoke.
