The Lonoke Lady Jackrabbits split two conference matches in the past week.

Lonoke lost a close one to Central Arkansas Christian in five games at the Gina Cox Center on Sept. 19 but knocked off Maumelle in four Tuesday to improve to 5-2 in league action

CAC won the match last week 8-25, 25-8, 19-25, 25-24, 19-17. Lonoke beat Maumelle 19-25, 25-23, 25-17, 25-17.

“The CAC loss was very tough,” Lonoke coach Laura Park said. “We had several opportunities to put it away and couldn’t do it. I think a lot of that goes back to practice. Sometimes, we don’t push as hard as we should or finish in practice. I try to tell the girls that you play like you practice. So you need to practice the way you want to play. I don’t think they fully grasp that.”

Park said it was good to bounce back with the win over Maumelle.

“They had one really good hitter who could jump out of the gym,” Park said. “We adjusted to her very well.”

Lonoke started off sluggish against Maumelle, losing the first game 25-19.

“We decided that we wanted to win, wanted to play and pulled it out,” Park said.

Lonoke hosts Marianna in an important conference match today at the Gina Cox Center. The Lady Trojans beat Lonoke at Marianna a few weeks ago.

“Just like with CAC, we have to finish,” Park said. “We can’t miss serves. If we’re getting good sets, we’ve got to be able to attack the ball and put it down or at least keep it in play and not hit it 20 feet out of bounds because we weren’t ready. You can’t give away anything to a team like that or like CAC or Southside Batesville. They are going to jump on it and take advantage of it. We need to learn to do that.”

The junior high match starts at 4:30 p.m. with the high junior varsity and varsity matches to follow.
