The Lonoke Lady Jackrabbits improved to 5-0 in 4A-2 league play with a 47-19 win over Marianna on Tuesday night at the Gina Cox Center.
Lonoke is now 13-4 on the season.
“Like Coach [Nolan] Richardson says, ‘a bumpy ride is better than a smooth walk,’” Lonoke coach Nathan Morris said. “It’s still a win and we’ll take it.”
The first quarter was a struggle for both teams as the score was tied 4-4 with 3:01 left.
Lonoke then went on a 12-0 run to lead 16-4. Jarrelyn McCall started the run with a field goal. Eboni Willis scored on a putback. Kerasha Johnson scored off a steal. Willis then scored again before Amanda Sexton scored four in row to account for the run.
Lonoke led 22-9 at halftime.
Lonoke put the game away with a 13-0 run in the second half to lead 37-11 with 7:18 left in the game. Lonoke’s lead reached 30 at 47-17 following a basket by Makayla Grady with 1:22 left.
“Obviously, we see some things that we’ve got to work on,” Morris said. “It’s hard for high school kids to get up every single night. They know that we’ve got a big game Friday night at Heber Springs. I think we will see a different team Friday night.”
McCall led Lonoke with 13 points. Sexton had 11. Willis scored nine. Johnson had six. Callie Whitfield, Haiden Jeter, Ashlyn Allen and Grady had two points each.
Lady Rabbits 49, Newport 26
The Lonoke Lady Jackrabbits improved to 4-0 in league play with a 49-26 win over Newport on Friday at the Gina Cox Center.
Lonoke led 13-5 after one quarter and 23-21 at halftime.
Lonoke started to pull away in the third quarter, outscoring Newport 12-3.
Eboni Willis and Jarrelyn McCall led Lonoke with 15 points each. Amanda Sexton had 11. Callie Whitfield scored four. Kerasha Johnson added two.
Jr. Girls 28, Marianna 25
The Lonoke Junior Jackrabbits knocked off Marianna 28-25 in a 4A-2 conference game Monday night.
Lonoke led 7-1 after one quarter and 14-10 at halftime.
Kylie Hobson led Lonoke with eight points. Keiunna Walker and Mickenzie Williams had five points each. Arian Phillips and Deria Allen had four points each. Destiny Bracy had two.
Bald Knob 45, Jr. Girls 22
Bald Knob beat Lonoke 45-22 in the first round of the Bradford Junior High Tournament last week.
Arian Phillips led Lonoke with five points. Keiunna Walker had four. Annie Whisnant scored three. Mickenzie Williams had two. Kylie Hobson and Shakey Gomillion each hit a free throw.
