MAUMELLE — The Lonoke Junior Jackrabbits scored the scrimmage’s only touchdown then held Maumelle out of the end zone late in 6-0 “win” in Monday’s first action against another team.
Lonoke quarterback Logan Dozier scored the only points on a 2-yard run with 1:14 left in the first of two periods. The two-point conversion failed.
Maumelle had a chance to score late after Lonoke turned the ball over on downs at the Hornets’ 15 with 6:30 left. Maumelle then moved the ball to the Lonoke 22 before the Junior Jackrabbits’ defense forced two plays to go backwards for 17 yards.
Lonoke coach Darrick Lowery said his team had been “looking forward” to playing another team.
“The kids had been chomping at the bit to hit someone else with another color jersey on,” he said. “All in all, it wasn’t too bad. It was a little sloppy at times. We had too many penalties that we need to clean up.”
Lonoke’s offense finished with 138 yards rushing on 24 carries. Dozier had 75 yards on eight carries. Michael Hodge had 40 yards on six carries. Isaac Toney rushed for 29 yards on seven carries.
Dozier completed 1 of 3 passes for 21 yards. Casey Martin caught the only pass.
“I thought the offense looked pretty good at times,” Lowery said. “I thought our defense stepped up big in a few key situations.”
Maumelle finished with 60 yards rushing on 24 carries.
