Jr. Lady Rabbits fall to Southside

The Lonoke Junior Lady Jackrabbits ran into a buzz saw in the semifinals of the 4A-2 district tournament Feb. 7 at Lonoke High School.

Southside Batesville knocked off Lonoke 49-28, ending the Junior Lady Jackrabbits’ season at 16-9.

The Lady Jackrabbits never led in the game. Southside scored the game’s first four points before Lonoke’s Kimistri Ballance hit two free throws with 4:16 left in the first quarter.

From there, Southside outscored Lonoke 8-5 to lead 12-7 after one quarter.

The Lady Southerners then outscored Lonoke 15-8 in the second quarter to lead 27-15 at halftime.

Lonoke tried to keep it close and trailed 32-20 following a free throw by Jarrelyn McCall with 3:59 left in the third quarter. However, Southside scored the final six points of the quarter to lead 38-20 heading into the fourth.

Ashlyn Allen led Lonoke with 14 points. McCall had eight. Destiny Bracy added four while Ballance had two.

Jr. Lady Rabbits 40, Dollarway 24

The Lonoke Junior Lady Jackrabbits knocked off Pine Bluff Dollarway 40-24 in the first round of the 4A-2 district tournament at Lonoke High School on Feb. 6.

Lonoke led 11-4 after one quarter and 20-11 at halftime.

Jarrelyn McCall and Ashlyn Allen led Lonoke with 16 points each. Makayla Grady and Brooke Jackson had two points each.
