Jackrabbits win 3 conference games in four days

The Lonoke Jackrabbits were busy last week, playing and winning three key conference games to remain perfect in 4A-2 action.

Lonoke beat Southside Batesville 7-4 on April 9, Pine Bluff Dollarway 11-6 on April 10 and Newport 8-5 in nine innings on Saturday.

In the win over Southside, Lonoke pitcher Nick Watson went the distance, giving up four runs on eight hits. He struck out 14 in the victory.

Lonoke scored twice in the first. Casey Martin walked and scored on a single by Nick Graves. Watson followed with a single to drive in Graves.

Lonoke scored three times in the second. Savonte Rountree walked and scored; Elijah Seigrist and Casey Martin both singled and scored.

The Jackrabbits added to their lead in the fifth. scoring once. Mikey Shinn singled. Cody Horton, running for Shinn, scored on a sacrifice fly by Pierce Johnson.

Lonoke then scored two more in the sixth. Casey Martin walked and Christian James singled. They both scored on a double by Watson.

In the win over Dollarway, Lonoke took control of the game with eight runs in second inning. Johnson scored twice while James, Graves, Watson, Shinn, Cody Martin and Rountree each scored a run.

The Jackrabbits added three runs to their total in the fourth. Cody Martin was hit by a pitch to start the frame. He scored on a triple by Johnson. Johnson scored on a ground out by Rooney while Rountree, who walked, scored on a triple by James.

In the win over Newport, Lonoke broke a 5-5 tie with three runs in top of the ninth. With one out, Johnson and James both singled. Two batters later, Watson doubled, driving in Johnson with the first run. James and Watson scored on a single by Shinn.

James retired the first two batters of the ninth. He gave up a single before getting the last man to line out to end the game.

Lonoke scored twice in the second inning. Shinn walked and scored. Casey Martin singled and scored.

The Jackrabbits scored their third run in the fourth. Shinn walked and scored on a single by Casey Martin.

Lonoke scored two more runs in the fifth. Johnson was hit by a pitch and scored on a ground out by Watson. James singled and scored on a hit by Shinn.
