The Lonoke Jackrabbits bounced back from their first home loss of the season to beat Marianna 63-50 on Tuesday night at the Gina Cox Center.

Lonoke, which is now 13-3 overall and 3-2 in 4A-2 conference play, was coming off a 54-53 loss to Newport on Friday.

“That was a bad loss for us last Friday,” Lonoke coach Dean Campbell said. “We came back and we focused and played pretty well.

“We needed a win before we go on the road,” referring to Friday’s game at Heber Springs.

Tuesday’s game was close throughout the first half and tied at 28-28 when Lonoke’s Tykel Gray hit a runner at the halftime buzzer to give the Jackrabbits a 30-28 lead at intermission.

The Jackrabbits scored the first four points of the second half — two each by Darian Young and Blake Mack — to lead 34-28. Lonoke’s lead reached 13 points by the end of the third quarter after Jamel Rankin hit three free throws late in the period.

Marianna hit a three-pointer to start the fourth quarter. The Jackrabbits then scored nine in a row to lead 56-37 with 6:14 left in the game. Rankin started the run with a three-point play. He then scored on a drive to the basket. Gray hit a three-pointer before Jawuan Bryant hit two foul shots to account for the run.

Marianna made a small run and got to within 13 at 61-48 with 2:18 left. Bryant hit two free throws with 2:05 left to make the score 63-48.

Marianna scored the game’s final points with 1:18 left. From there, Lonoke ran out the clock, getting the bounce-back win.

“We hit free throws down the stretch,” Campbell said, referring to going 13 for 14 from the foul line in the second half. “We had some guys step up. It was a really good win.”

Mack and Rankin led Lonoke with 14 points each. Young scored 13. Gray finished with eight. Darius McCall scored seven. Bryant added six. Cedric Cooney had a free throw.

Marcus Cooper led Marianna with 12 points.

Newport 54, Jackrabbits 53

The Lonoke Jackrabbits dropped their second conference game of the year Friday night, losing to Newport 54-53 at the Gina Cox Center.

Newport was fouled with 0.1 seconds left and the score tied at 53-53. The Greyhounds made 1 of 3 free throws to win the game.

Lonoke led 18-9 after one quarter and 30-21 at halftime.

Blake Mack led Lonoke with 14 points. Darius McCall had 13. Scoring seven each were Tykel Gray and Jawuan Bryant. Justin Meadows had five. Braylin Bryant scored four. Darian Young scored two. Jamel Rankin added a free throw.

Jr. Rabbits 47, Marianna 28

The Lonoke Junior Jackrabbits remained perfect in 4A-2 conference play with a 47-28 win over Marianna on Monday night.

Lonoke led 12-10 after one quarter and 23-20 at halftime.

Isaac Toney led Lonoke with 18 points. Haven Hunter added 13. Tammarrea Moore and Kylan Branscomb scored five points each. Jydan Johnson had four. Ryan Truelove scored two.

Jr. Rabbits 41, Bradford 18

Lonoke advanced to the finals of the Bradford Junior High Invitational with a 41-18 win over Bradford on Saturday.

Lonoke led 14-10 at halftime.

Isaac Toney led Lonoke with 19 points. Jydan Johnson had eight. Haven Hunter scored six. Tyler Spencer scoured four. Tammarrea Moore scored three. Tucker Sparks and Kylan Branscomb had two each.

Jr. Rabbits 44, Newport 26

Lonoke knocked off Newport 44-26 in a conference game Friday night.

Lonoke led 23-2 after one quarter. Haven Hunter scored 14 points in the first six minutes.

Hunter led Lonoke with 18 points. Kylan Branscomb and Jydan Johnson had seven points each. Tyler Spencer scored five. Isaac Toney had four. Xavier Hodge scored two.

Jr. Rabbits 47, Bald Knob 35

The Lonoke Junior Jackrabbits knocked off Bald Knob 47-35 in the first round of the Bradford Tournament last week.

Lonoke led 13-6 after one quarter and 26-13 at halftime.

Isaac Toney led Lonoke with 16 points. Haven Hunter had 10. Conner Linton had seven. Tyler Spencer and Kylan Branscomb had four points each.
