The Lonoke Junior Jackrabbits’ season ended with a 35-27 loss to Pine Bluff Dollarway in the semifinals of the 4A-2 district tournament at the LHS gymnasium Feb. 7.
Lonoke trailed 22-21 after three quarters then took a 24-22 lead on a three-pointer by Jawaun Bryant with 5:49 left in the game.
Dollarway’s Cameron Girley converted a three-point play with 5:33 left left to give the Cardinals a 25-24 lead.
Dollarway’s Chris Slater then hit a short jumper to push the lead to 27-24.
Lonoke’s Justin Meadows hit a three-pointer with 4:52 left to tie the game at 27-27.
From there, Dollarway outscored Lonoke 8-0 to end the game.
The Junior Jackrabbits had several chances to score but missed several three-pointers and two free throw with 34.8 seconds left.
Bryant led Lonoke with 14 points. Meadows had eight. Isaac Toney added six while Anthony Morris scored two.
Lonoke got off to a quick start in the game, leading 4-0 on a field goal by Bryant and two free throws by Morris.
Dollarway pulled to within one at 6-5 before Toney hit a late jumper, giving Lonoke an 8-5 lead after one quarter.
Dollarway outscored the Junior Jackrabbits 9-5 in the second quarter to lead 14-13 at halftime.
Lonoke fell behind 18-13 in the third quarter then went on a 6-0 run to lead 19-18 with 1:17 left. Meadows hit two free throws then Toney and Meadows hit field goals to account for the run.
Jr. Rabbits 41, Heber Springs 22
The Lonoke Junior Jackrabbits opened 4A-2 tournament play with a 41-22 win over Heber Springs on Feb. 6.
Lonoke led 10-4 after one quarter and 22-10 at halftime.
Justin Meadows led Lonoke with 17 points. Jawuan Bryant and Bryson Jackson had nine points each. Darius Bunch added four. Anthony Morris scored two.
