Severe weather possible Thursday

Severe weather is possible Thursday across Arkansas, according to the National Weather Service.

Thunderstorms, heavy rain, large hail in excess of 1 inch in diameter, wind gusts in excess of 60 mph and tornadoes are possible as part of the weather pattern, which is predicted to enter the northwest corner of the state at about 7 a.m. and move eastward in a diagonal line across the entire state, according to the Weather Service.

The potential storms are predicted to enter the Central Arkansas area at about 10 a.m. and be directly overhead by 1 p.m.

Because of the speed of the system, flash flooding should not be a widespread problem, according to the Weather Service.

The weather system will leave colder temperatures in its wake Friday and Saturday, when near-freezing temperatures are predicted for most of the state. The weekend lows for Central Arkansas are predicted to be in the 30s and 40s.
