Workshop demonstrates how landowners can earn money from their property

Landowners looking to make the most from their acreage can learn ways to earn money from their property at the Outdoor Enterprises Workshop in Lonoke.

Registration starts at 8:30 a.m., and the presentations run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Hicks Family Farm on Lasiter Road in Lonoke on Tuesday, Aug. 27.

“The workshop is a way for landowners to discover how they can generate supplemental income from their property through an outdoor business,” said Keith Perkins, Lonoke County extension agent for the University of Arkansas System Division of Agriculture. “Or, if landowners already have a business incorporating their property, they can learn ways to expand their business. Everyone will get an opportunity to talk with legal experts, wildlife habitat specialists, local outdoor enterprise business owners, accountants and marketing specialists.”

Topics include revenue potential from waterfowl and agritourism, landowner liability considerations, insurance options, leasing contracts, waivers and indemnity agreements, land accounting and incorporating your business and tours of the Hicks Family Farm and the Double-D Duck Club.

“Outdoor enterprises are a great way to expose people to nature and what it provides,” Perkins said. “Anything from agritourism destinations like corn mazes and farmers markets to outdoor recreation like hunting clubs and leases to harvesting opportunities like Christmas tree farms, pumpkin patches and u-pick farms will be discussed.”

The registration fee is $20 per person or $30 per couple and includes lunch and all resources. Checks should be made payable to Lonoke County Depository Account with the name, address, city, state, zip, phone and email address of each person attending. Payment and a completed registration form should be mailed to Keith Perkins, Lonoke County Cooperative Extension Service, P.O. Box 357, Lonoke, AR 72204.
