As I stand here before you today I am in complete shock. Like all of you here I have been counting down the days until graduation, and now it is finally here. Looking out into the audience tonight we have many supporters surrounding us. Thank you to all of the teachers for believing in us and helping us achieve our goals. And thank you to the many family members and parents in the crowd for encouraging us to always be our best.
We are blessed that Lonoke High School is built on a foundation of traditions. It is these traditional morals and values that have equipped us to enter the “real” world with aspirations of things bigger than ourselves. I know that we have left our mark. From running off teachers every year to having the best student section in 4A, I know that we will carry on our Jackrabbit pride forever.
One of my favorite quotes is from Marilyn Monroe that says, “Give a girl the right shoes and she can conquer the world.” I think this quote stands true not only for the girls but also for the boys as well. As we go off into the next phase of our lives it is up to us to make the decisions that will affect our future. We have the power to put on whatever shoe we may choose to step out into the world outside of Lonoke. Whether it’s six inch heels or a pair of work boots it is up to us to put our best foot forward in displaying the skills and knowledge that we possess.
Looking at you the class of 2014 I see future business men and women, nurses, star athletes, teachers, and farmers. We each have a future full of endless possibilities. From this point on in our lives whether the next step is entering the work force or furthering our education I know that we will persevere to reach our full potential. Yes, there will be mistakes. And yes, there will be failures. But we can overcome the obstacles we face to make our future that much more rewarding. Jeremiah 29:11 says, “For I know the plans I have for you declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future.” I know that our future is bright. By remaining humble, grounded, and true to ourselves we can take on the world. Tonight we make that walk across the stage that we have been waiting for our entire lives. We have studied, made the grades, and now it is time. Congratulations Class of 2014! We did it!
