School board recognizes students, employees

Lonoke Primary School principal Rebecca Reed made the presentations to the primary school student and employees of the month during the Monday night school board meeting.

The female student of the month was kindergarten student Sophie Swiney. According to Reed, Swiney was described by her teachers as “Always doing what she is asked, having a positive attitude and loves to learn”. Male student of the month was kindergarten student Peyton Wallace. Reed said Wallace’s teachers described him as being “a sweet boy who tries his best, has a great attitude and works hard”.

Classified employee of the month was Joyce Smith. When described why Smith was chosen by her peers, Reed said said “she always smiles, is helpful to others, always has a positive attitude and polite and does a good job keeping classrooms and the primary school building clean.” Kris Miller was selected as the licensed employee of the month. According to Reed, Miller was as someone who “loves teaching, is always smiling, positive, someone who gets involved, a great leader, optimistic and a joy to be around”.

In other business, the board unanimously voted to:

•Purchase football jerseys for $23,650.69 from Sports Stop of Little Rock.

•Pay the invoice premium of $23,100 to the Arkansas School Board Association for Workers’ Compensation.

•Accept policy revisions as presented.

•Extend the contract for Superintendent Suzanne Bailey with a two-percent performance bonus. The board met in executive session to discuss Bailey’s contract. She was not present during the discussion.

•Accept the retirement of Charles Ray Miller.

The Lonoke School board also met prior to the regular board meeting on Monday to discuss facilities and additions to the 2014-15 school year strategic plan. A second meeting will be held for further discussion at a later date.

Johnie Watson was absent from the meeting. The next regular board meeting will be at 6 p.m. on March 17 in the administration building.
