Longtime school board member dies

Ray Kelleybrew, one of the Lonoke School District’s longest sitting school board members, died Wednesday, Oct. 10.

“Our hearts go out to the Ray Kelleybrew family in their recent loss,” school superintendent Suzanne Bailey wrote. “Mr. Kelleybrew served as a Lonoke School Board member for 19 years. His dedicated service to students, staff and the community will forever be remembered.”

In September, Kelleybrew was elected to another term on the school board.

Kelleybrew oversaw some of Lonoke School’s greatest growth periods with a new elementary school, new middle school, new high school field house, new high school and the start of the Gina Cox Center.

There will be a memorial to Kelleybrew observed at the at the November school board meeting, Bailey said.

Lloyd Ray Kelleybrew, 66, of Kerr was the son of the late N.L. and Cora Kelleybrew.

Kelleybrew is survived by his wife, Barbara Kelleybrew; sons, Brian (Alida) Kelleybrew of Sherwood, Tony (Rose) Kelleybrew, Cassius (Rosalynd) Kelleybrew, and Brad Kelleybrew, all of Kerr, and six grandchildren.

Also brother, George (Carol) Kelleybrew of Kerr; sister, Sallie Brown of Little Rock; and an uncle, Lloyd Watkins of Dardanelle.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Oct. 13, at St. Matthews Baptist Church of Kerr.
