Honors for students, teachers

Eight members of the Lonoke High School Swim Team participated in the East District meet Feb. 13, with much success. Of the 10 athletes, Kayla McGee is progressing on to the State meet on March 1. She will be the first to represent Lonoke School District at the State level. Congratulations to Kayla!

Congratulations to Mrs. Christine Edelmann for being selected the Lonoke School District Teacher of the Year! Mrs. Edelmann has received the Staff Member of Month honor from her peers and has been recognized by the Lonoke School Board. She has also written and received several grant funds for her classroom and students.

The JROTC program at Lonoke School District held a banquet on February 7, 2014 in the high school cafeteria. Eighty-two students were in attendance for this 1st annual banquet. Guest speaker, Maj. Eric Ladd, Arkansas National Guard, spoke at the event. On February 1, 2014, the Marksmanship Team placed 4th out of 8 teams competing with the following students competing: Cadet Cole Bowie, Cadet Lane Bowie, Cadet Thomas Hickman, and Cadet Wallace Howard III.

Mark Odom, sophomore at Lonoke High School, recently voluntarily participated in the Arkansas High School Indoor Invitational on February 8, 2014, and posted impressive times. Congratulations to Mark!

The Lonoke Quiz Bowl Team won first place in the quiz bowl tournament held in Beebe, Arkansas. Members of the team include: Ryan Cleveland, Lydia Moody, Olivia Dollinger, Alexx Weaver, Benjamin Bailey, Chloe Blair, Eva Richardson, and Ally Kyzer. Team sponsor is Mrs. Pam Chandler. Congratulations students and Mrs. Chandler for a job well done!

The Lonoke School District will be hosting the Class 4A State Basketball Tournament on March 5-8, 2014, in the Gina Cox Center. We hope that everyone will make plans to come visit during this time and show support to our students, staff, and community. We appreciate everyone that has called or come by to offer help to our staff as we continue to make plans and arrangements for this upcoming special event. We can still use your help if you are interested. This is a wonderful opportunity to showcase our new center and our town.

Spring Break is March 24-28, 2014. School will not be in session.
