Heat advisory continues through Friday

A heat advisory remains in effect through 7 p.m. Friday for most of the state, including Lonoke County.

The combination of hot temperatures and high humidity levels could create heat index values of at least 105 degrees, according to the National Weather Service advisory, with the dangerous temperatures reached by early afternoon and continuing for several hours each day.

Heat-related illnesses are more likely with prolonged exposure to these conditions, the Weather Service warned. In areas where appreciable rain fell recently, humidity levels will be elevated and it will feel especially oppressive.

The Weather Service advises the public to take the following precautionary measures: drink plenty of nonalcoholic fluids, take frequent breaks in an air-conditioned environment, spend less time outdoors and keep pets inside if possible or ensure they have shade and water if left outside.
