Arkansas Highway Commission awards I-40 median barrier project

A $6.1 million contract for construction of a center cable barrier on portions of Interstate 40 in Pulaski, Lonoke, Prairie and Monroe counties has been awarded by the Arkansas State Highway Commission. The barriers, such as pictured on U.S. Highway 67/167 between Cabot and Jacksonville, will be installed on a total of 500 miles of highways in the state by 2016. The March 4 press release announcing the bid opening lists Nationwide Construction Group of Chesterfield, Mich., with the winning bid of $6,114,076.51. The project will install median cable barrier on a total of 41.5 miles along locations on I-40 between North Little Rock and Brinkley. Construction is scheduled to begin in two to four weeks, weather permitting. The project should be complete in mid 2014.
