The Lonoke Middle School Math Club raised $339.81 for Arkansas Children’s Hospital by hosting a student versus staff volleyball game. They also made homemade holiday cards for the Red Oak nursing home residents and hand delivered them which helped to put a smile on about 75 faces. Autumn Stuart is the sponsor of the group.
The new Accelerated Reading Program at the primary school is up and running well. Over 80 percent of the 2nd grade students tested higher than their last DRA (Developmental Reading Assessment). All teachers, including activity teachers, are having students complete open responses at least once a week. This helps to prepare them for the upcoming testing in the spring. The 100th day of school was celebrated with student created projects of posters and other materials to demonstrate 100 items for 100 days of school.
Mrs. Sharon Rudder from the Wade Knox Child Advocacy Center came to speak to the high school health classes on the subject of “cyberbullying.” All three color guard teams from the JROTC program placed in the recent drill meet. Drama club is working on a play called “Alice in Zombieland” and will be performed in the Gina Cox Center on March 17 and 18. More details will come at a later date.
Legends of Lonoke will be Saturday, February 15, 2014, in the high school cafeteria and the Gina Cox Center beginning with dinner at 6 p.m. and the concert at 7 p.m. Please purchase tickets from a student leader or the district central office ahead of time so that we can get a better count for dinner, if you plan to join us for dinner prior to the concert. Tickets will also be available the night of the concert. Dinner will include chicken fried steak, mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans, rolls, dessert, and a drink. We hope to see you there!
