Single-parent scholarship fund raises money by selling chickens

The Lonoke County Single Parent Scholarship Fund raised about $11,500 by selling 600 chickens for $8 each. The Arkansas Single Parent Scholarship Fund provided a 160 percent match of that total. The money will support 23 $500 scholarships for the fall 2012 semester. The application deadline is July 15 and a copy of the application and scholarship requirements can be found at www.aspsf.org For more information, email lcspsf@yahoo.com.

During the board meeting on May 21, the board presented Grandpa’s BBQ owners with a plaque for help with the fundraiser. Grandpa’s BBQ has smoked chickens for the board free of charge for five years, and the fundraiser wouldn’t be possible without Grandpa’s BBQ.

Board members, left to right, are Angel Clingmon and Emily Krablin, Grandpa’s BBQ owners Danny Joslin and Angie Joslin and board members Stacy Crain, Laura Denson and Tiffany Hunter. Board members Kimberly Clement, Wesley Clement, Anne Swint and Mary Absure are not pictured.
