Red Hat Society visits Lonoke museum

The Concord Grapette Chapter in Lonoke of the Red Hat Society visits the Lonoke County Museum on July 12. According to information from member Wanda Cook, the Red Hat Society is a group of women that supports and encourages women in their pursuit of fun, friendship, fulfillment, freedom and fitness. The society was started by Sue Ellen Cooper of Fullerton, Calif., who, while visiting a friend, bought a red hat at a thrift shop and later read a poem entitled “Warning” by Jenny Joseph, about a women that wore purple clothing with a red hat. Cooper began giving red hats and the poem to friends, so they become a society. Now, Red Hat chapters have developed across the United States. (Photo by Priscilla Campbell)
