The Carlisle Lady Bison shook off a slow start to beat the Hazen Lady Hornets 59-35 in a 2A-6 matchup Friday night at Bison Arena. Carlisle swept the season series with the Lady Hornets, winning 47-40 Jan. 6 at Hazen.

Carlisle trailed 10-7 after one quarter and 12-7 after Hazen’s Tineya Palton hit two free throws early in the second quarter.

Carlisle then scored the next five points to tie the game at 12-12. Breanna Young scored three and Faith Walker tied the game on a putback.

Hazen hit two free throws to take a 14-12 lead with 5:22 left in the first half. From there, the Lady Bison scored nine in a row – all by Walker — to lead 21-14 with 3:20 left.

Carlisle led 30-19 at halftime and 45-31 after three quarters.

“In the second quarter and the beginning of the third quarter, I thought we did a better job of getting the ball inside,” Carlisle coach Jonathan Buffalo said. “We didn’t settle for outside jump shots. We came back in the second half and hit a few of those. Offensively, we got to them where they weren’t guarding every pass and we were able to move the ball around a little bit.”

Walker led Carlisle with 20 points. Young had 12. Presley Carter added 13. Sloane Henderson scored 11. Morgan Walter had two. Peyton Hitchings had a free throw.
