Lady Bison open softball season with win

The Carlisle Lady Bison softball team opened the 2013 season with a 15-1 win over Little Rock McClellan on Bobby Glover Field at Rockefeller Park on Friday.

Carlisle pitcher Taylor Mealler retired the first three McClellan batters in a row, including two strikeouts.

The Lady Bison got on the board in the bottom of the first. Hannah Cooper reached on an error and eventually scored on a single by Katlyn Stock.

The Lady Lions tied the game at 1-1 in the top of the second. They scored on a passed ball but Mealler struck out two more batters.

Carlisle erupted for 14 runs on seven hits in the bottom of the second. Scoring runs were McKayla Prince (twice), Maddie Harrison (twice), Sloane Henderson (running for Mealler), Cooper (twice), Harley Hightower (twice, running for Ashley Reid), Stock (twice), Mallari Devinney, Heather Gordon and Presley Carter.

Mealler then retired the Lady Lions in order in the top of the third. At that point, the umpires declared the game over.

Mealler struck out five in three innings to get the win.

Bald Knob 9, Carlisle 0

The Carlisle Lady Bison fell to 1-1 on the season with a 9-0 loss to Bald Knob on Monday.

The Lady Bulldogs scored three in the first, two in the third, three in the fourth and one in the fifth.

Carlisle had only four base runners in the game. Ashley Reid reached in the first and fourth innings. Heather Gordon made it to third in the second while Presley Carter got to third in the fifth.
