Despite having a bye week, the Carlisle Junior Bison came out on fire in beating Hazen 46-6 on Oct. 17 at Fred C. Hardke Field.
Carlisle is now 2-4 on the season.
“Our guys have matured quite a bit and they are a lot more focused than they have been in the past,” Carlisle coach Brandon Barbaree said. “It was great for our ninth graders. They had never beaten Hazen at any level at any time. So, it was one of those things that they were excited to get the win. They’ve seen the improvement they’ve made and it’s big for them. It was a big win for them.”
Barbaree has always said that seeing improvement with the junior high program is key for success at the high school level.
“We’re at the point where the kids are getting to see that the goal isn’t to win in seventh, eighth and ninth grade,” he said. “We want to win everything. Hopefully, we’re building to where we are successful and maintain success at the high school level. I think the guys are getting to the point where we are getting better every week.
“We’re going to keep doing it the same way, keep working hard and hopefully, it will pay off.”
Carlisle’s Ty Golleher rushed for 202 yards on 8 carries in the win. He scores touchdowns on runs of 57, 62, 17 and 43 yards. He also scored two two-point conversions.
Devon Kendrick had 127 yards rushing on 5 carries. His only touchdown came on a 46-yard run in the first quarter.
Koltan Davidson scored Carlisle’s other touchdown on a 35-yard run in the fourth quarter. Tyler Teel scored the two-point conversion.
Hazen’s only touchdown came on a 24-yard run by Grant Shelman with 3:07 left in the third quarter.
Shelman led Hazen with 91 yards rushing.
