Junior Bison host Hazen after week off

A week after winning their first game of the season, the Carlisle Junior Bison were forced into a “bye” week because Brinkley didn’t field a junior high team this season.

Carlisle beat Clarendon 44-14 two weeks ago after starting the season 0-4.

Brinkley moved its ninth graders up to the high school team so last week’s game was a seventh- and eighth-grade affair.

The Junior Bison will host Hazen tonight at Fred C. Hardke Field. Game time is 7 p.m.

Carlisle coach Brandon Barbaree said his team has been consistent as far as its approach to games.

“They have lost to some pretty good junior high football teams in very close games,” he said. “Our kids will be thinking about Hazen, Hazen, Hazen. I just want them to take it like anybody else, just like when ultra-talented England came here.

“I just want them to take the same approach and hopefully they will. And if we do what we can do, and protect the football and try to get better every day on defense, then we will have a chance to beat anybody, no matter if it’s Hazen or Des Arc. Hopefully our kids will be prepared and ready to go.”
