The Carlisle Junior Bison cannot seem to get over the hump after four games.

Carlisle (0-4) lost another close game, its third in in a row, as Palestine-Wheatley beat the Junior Bison 42-34 in four overtimes last week at Fred C. Hardke Field.

The loss was Carlisle’s third in a row in which it had a lead in the second half.

“It was probably one of the most exciting junior high games that I have ever been a part of,” Carlisle coach Brandon Barbaree said. “The kids never quit against a team that beat us by 30 points a year ago.

“We were never able to put them away. But it was better to watch our kids fight. We’re trying to get that first one out of the way. Hopefully that will happen soon. Our kids are working hard and we’re getting better every week.”

Carlisle led 14-0 early in the second quarter. Tyler Sanders scored on a 16-yard run with 5:41 left in the first quarter. Ty Golleher scored on a 3-yard run with 5:01 left in the first half. Devon Kendrick added the two-point conversion to make the score 14-0.

Palestine-Wheatley scored touchdowns in the second and third quarters to tie the game at 14-14, which is where it stood at the end of regulation.

Carlisle got the ball first in the first overtime. Tristan Seidenschwarz threw a 9-yard touchdown pass to Kendrick. The two-point conversion failed, leaving the score at 20-14. The Junior Patriots tied the game at 20-20 on a 21-yard run.

In the second overtime, Palestine-Wheatley scored on a 2-yard run and added the two-point conversion to make the score 28-20. Carlisle tied it at 28-28 on an 11-yard run by Golleher. Seidenschwarz threw to Kendrick for the two-point conversion to send game into the third overtime.

In third overtime, Carlisle took a 34-28 lead on a 6-yard pass from Seidenschwarz to Kendrick. The two-point conversion failed. Palestine-Wheatley scored on a 2-yard run.

In the fourth overtime, Palestine-Wheatley took a 42-34 lead on a 2-yard run.

Carlisle’s final play came on fourth down where the Junior Bison threw an interception in the end zone to end the game.

Kendrick led Carlisle with 107 yards rushing on 18 carries. Golleher had 94 yards on 18 carries.

The Junior Bison play at Clarendon tonight. Game time is 7 p.m.
