Bison Arena will be the site of the Class 2A East Region basketball tournament next week.
Carlisle hosted the tournament two years ago but did not have a team playing that week, after getting knocked off by Des Arc in both boys and girls in the district tournament.
This year, the Bison, coached by William Rountree, qualified for regionals by beating Palestine-Wheatley on Monday. The Lady Bison, coached by Jonathan Buffalo, played in regionals last year and received an automatic bid by winning the 2A-6 conference championship.
If the Bison win the district tournament, they will play in the first round on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. If they are fourth, they will play Wednesday at 8:30 p.m.
If the Bison are second, they will play Feb. 21 at 8:30 p.m. If they are third, they will play at 5:30 p.m. on Feb. 21.
If the Lady Bison repeat as district tournament champions, they will play Wednesday at 4 p.m.
If they finish second, they will play Feb. 21 at 7 p.m. If they are third, they will play Feb. 21 at 4 p.m.
“We’ve got a great facility,” Rountree said. “I’ve always advocated that we should attempt to have tournaments here as often as we can because we do have a great facility, thanks to our patrons and administration. and it really promotes basketball.”
Rountree said that two years ago when neither Carlisle team was playing “we had a good tournament.”
“When you put the effort and energy and support together to host a tournament, you certainly want your teams here,” he said. “We are very appreciate of both of our teams playing and look forward to the tournament.”
The semifinals are Friday, Feb. 22. The third-place and championship games are Saturday, Feb. 23.
