Hazen’s lone highlight was leading 3-0 against the Carlisle Bison.
From there, Carlisle outscored the Hornets 77-43 the rest of the game for a 77-46 win in the 2A-6 conference opener Tuesday at Bison Arena.
Hazen hit a three-pointer with 7:19 left in the first quarter. Carlisle’s Clayvon Edwards then hit a short jumper to start an 11-0 run. Carlisle led 24-7 after one quarter.
The Bison (2-0) opened the second quarter with a 6-0 run. Dathan Hill scored off a steal. Austin Reed hit two free throws while Nick Schafer and Braden Reed each hit one foul shot.

Hazen scored the final three points of the half to trail 46-18.
“I thought we had a lot of positive energy and we put a lot of defensive pressure on them that really swung the game in our favor,” Carlisle coach William Rountree said. “We’re 2-0 and our guys are doing a really good job of passing the ball and playing real good in transition.”
Rountree said the 2-0 start is one of the best he’s had in a long time at Carlisle.
“I like this ball club,” he said. “I like the make-up. I like the athleticism and I like the way they have started.
“They’ve been very coachable and really do a good job.”
Chris Hart led the Bison with 18 points. Braden Reed had 17. Justice Bryant added 15. Hill scored 13. Austin Reed and Deron Ricks added four points each. Cole Sheets scored three. Edwards had two and Schafer added a free throw.
Jr. Lady Bison 35, Hazen 19
The Carlisle Junior Lady Bison jumped out to a 14-0 lead after one quarter then cruised to a 35-19 win over Hazen on Tuesday at Bison Arena.
Carlisle pushed its lead to 25-3 by halftime.
Kayla Golleher and Peyton Hitchings led Carlisle with nine points each. Molli Weems had six. Star Tarter had five. Ashley Staton and Kira Burnett had two points each. Elex Mack and Ashby Terry each hit a free throw.
