Bison rout Bears in non-conference action

The Carlisle Bison improved to 11-4 on the season with a 15-0 rout of Barton in three innings at Rockefeller Park on Tuesday.

Carlisle was coming off a 10-8 loss to Drew Central on Monday at Taylor Field in Pine Bluff.

In the win Tuesday, Carlisle scored twice in the first inning. Josh Mathis led off with a walk and stole second base. He went to third on a wild pitch then scored on a wild pitch. Chris Hart also walked and eventually scored on an error.

Barton looked to get on the board in the top of the second. Ryan Bryant led off with a walk and Keelan Graves followed with a single. Travis Flake then hit a ground ball to Mathis at first base. Mathis threw to shortstop Hart at second base to retire Graves. Hart then relayed the ball back to Mathis to complete the double play. Quinton Watson then lined out to Jacob Cagle in center field to end the inning.

The Bison then scored five runs in the second to lead 7-0. Nick Schafer led off with a single but was retired at second base when Mathis reached on a fielder’s choice. He eventually scored on an error. Hart singled and Austin Reed walked. Hart scored when Dylan Brazeal reached on an error. Reed scored on a single by Tyler Young. Jacob Gordon followed with a double, driving in Brazeal and Young.

The Bears had one man reach in the third inning but Gordon retired the next three batters — including two on strikeouts — to end the inning.

The Bison then erupted for eight runs on five hits in the bottom of the third. It was highlighted by a solo homer by Deron Ricks, which made the scored 13-0. Also scoring in the inning were Schafer, Mathis, Hart, Reed, Young, Gordon and Cagle.

Gordon got the win, pitching three innings. He gave up one hit while striking out three.

Drew Central 10, Carlisle 8

The Carlisle Bison dropped a 10-8 decision to Drew Central on Monday at Taylor Field in Pine Bluff. The Pirates are coached by former Lonoke Jackrabbits coach Nick Kelnhofer.

The Bison scored three runs in the top of the first. Scoring were Josh Mathis, Austin Reed and Deron Ricks, who drove in two runs with a single.

The Pirates came back with three of their own to tie the game at 3-3.

Carlisle reclaimed the lead at 4-3 with a run in the top of the second. Jacob Gordon scored on a passed ball. However, Drew Central scored twice in the bottom of the frame to lead 5-4.

The Pirates added a run in the bottom of the third to lead 6-4. Carlisle tied the game at 6-6 with two runs in the top of the fourth. Scoring were Mathis and Hart.

Drew Central then scored once in the fourth and three times in the fifth to lead 10-6.

Carlisle scored single runs in the fifth and sixth innings. Mathis scored in the fifth while Jacob Cagle scored in the seventh.

Clarendon DH

The Carlisle Bison swept a conference doubleheader from Clarendon on Friday at Rockefeller Park.

The Bison won the first game 21-0 and the nightcap 17-2.

In the first game, Austin Reed, Dylan Brazeal, Tyler Young and Jacob Gordon each scored three runs.

Also scoring were Josh Mathis, Chris Hart, Deron Ricks, Thomas McCallie and Jacob Cagle.

Hart threw a no-hitter in three innings. He allowed a walk in the second inning but that runner was eventually put out.

In the second game, Mathis scored three runs to lead the Bison. Also scoring runs were Hart, Reed, Ricks, Clay Parker, Nick Schafer, Ben Wilson, Chase Brazeal and Gordon.
