New Hearts Ministries of Arkansas, based in Lonoke County, held a silent auction and dinner fundraiser June 27 at the Lonoke Community Center.

Ninety-seven people filled the Lonoke Community Center Gym for the fundraiser that night, including both guests and volunteers.

The event kicked off with a welcome from Program Director and Founder Tena Hauk. Entertainment was provided throughout the night by the Lonoke Assembly of God’s praise and worship band. Guests took part in bidding on silent auction items as well as a meal catered by Panera Bread of North Little Rock.

Following the evening meal, testimonies were given by four women, known as “freedom girls”, who have found success through the program: Mary Woods, Jephri Hanks, Carolyn Allen and Tashonda Plant. Each heart felt testimony told each woman’s life before and after becoming a part of the program.

Hauk said she found the event to be truly a success.

“It was awesome,” Hauk said. “It turned out even better than I has expected.”

Door prizes donated by a host of donors were also given before closing of the silent auction.

“I would like to thank all of those who came, the volunteers, supporters and donors,” Hauk said. “We have such great community support.”

Hauk said Monday that $3,300 was raised that night, leaving $2,900 following expenses. She said the money will be used for overhead expenses at the New Hearts Ministries and Job Corp Center and for future expenses.

According to Hauk, the first class given since the grand opening of the center in October, graduated a total of nine clients on June 24. Those clients participated in classes for life skills, parenting, job, non violence and other skills.

Hauk said new classes will begin July 25.
