For the 14th year, Lonoke area residents will gather for the American Cancer Society Relay For Life, but this time it will be for the Relay For Life of Lonoke County, organizers announced.
The Relay for Life of Lonoke County will be Friday, May 2, with the location to be announced next week. Theme for this year’s Relay is “Finish The Fight,” Zan Jackson, event co-chairman and survivor chairman, said.
Also new this year for the Relay will be the 6 p.m. to midnight time for walkers instead of all night, Jackson said.
“Cancer has not stopped affecting people’s lives and neither has the determination of the American Cancer Society to put an end to cancer,” Jackson said. “We here in Lonoke County and surrounding areas have been greatly affected by this disease and make this season to fight back.”
“Activities and entertainment are scheduled for the event,” Jackson said. “it will be a great time for the whole family.”
Anyone interested in forming teams for this year’s Relay For Life may do so at www.realayforlife.org/lonokear. Registration is $10 per person, survivors register for free.
“Write it on your calendar and come to the Relay For Life of Lonoke County and surrounding areas to represent your community to join together in the fight to the finish,” Jackson said.
Last year, the Relay For Life at Lonoke raised more than $16,000.
“Our Relay is for everybody in Lonoke County and all the surrounding towns and communities to come together as one in this fight that affects so many of our lives,” Jackson said. “We welcome all who would like to take part.”
Cancer survivor Lori Cole is the event chairman. Other committee members include: Brandi Tilghman, Cherry Southerland, Karen Dill, Bill Coley, Jada Huff, Mark Buffalo, Nicole Cornwell, Angela Flynn, Vickie Paradis and David Tilghman.
More information about the Relay For Life will appear in the coming weeks of this newspaper.
