The 2014 Lonoke County Leadership Training Program class toured the Arkansas State Capitol on Thursday, March 27.

Tour guide April Johnson gave the class facts about the capitol building, such as when it was built and dimensions of the building. The class toured the Governor’s Reception room, the bronze doors purchased from Tiffany’s in New York, Supreme Court room, the Tundra, House of Representatives and the Senate.

Senator Jonathan Dismang, who sponsored the tour, told the class differences between the House and Senate and how a bill becomes law.

“I enjoyed it and learned a lot about the capitol. I thought it was a good look behind the scenes of how the legislative works,” Ashley Parker of Carlisle said.

Parker also said he learned that people can’t use the big bronze doors anymore, like he did as a child, since Sept. 11, 2001.
