Johnson speaks to Altruistic club on gardening

The Carlisle Altruistic Club met April 30 in the home of Jan Pasley.

President Carolyn Martin presided over the meeting, attended by fourteen members. Martin lead the Pledge of Allegiance.

Program leader Mary Smith introduced guest speaker Jackie Johnson, owner of Lauren’s Garden in DeWitt. Johnson brought many flowers and plants. She gave the group a great deal of information and ideas on the care of plants.

Ruth Woods read the minutes of the previous meeting and financial report given by Dorothy Elmore.

The club discussed the upcoming GFWC of Arkansas Spring Convention on May 2-3 in North Little Rock. Since Judy Foot of Hazen is State President and from the Altruistic Clubs District, the clubs in Hazen and Carlisle are responsible for table decorations and door prizes. The chosen committee members have been busy gathering the necessary items.

The meeting adjourned with Mary Frances Perkins leading the reciting of the club collect. Refreshments were served by Pasley with the assistance of several club members.

The next meeting will be installation of new officers at the gazebo on May 14 in the Carlisle City Park. The group will then have lunch at Charlotte’s in Keo.
