Preparations have been underway this week for the annual Downtown Christmas on Saturday.
Festivities will kick off with the Chamber of Commerce Hamburger and Hot Dog Dinner from 4:30-7 p.m. at the fire station. Burger meals are $5 and Hot dog meals are $3. Drinks and hot chocolate will also be available for $1. The fire station is located at 201 W. Main St.
The Altruistic Club Nativity lighting, singing and devotional will be at 5 p.m. in front of BancorpSouth bank, 118 N. Court St. The devotional will be given by Landmark Baptist Church pastor Albert Young.
Lighting of the city Christmas tree will be at 6:15 p.m. at the fire department. The tree was decorated by Monica Caviness’s high school art class Tuesday. The ornaments were made by Caviness’s art class.
Over the past few weeks, local businesses have been decorated with numerous Christmas trees available for purchase by silent bid. The trees and decorations were sponsored by local clubs for the Carlisle Band Booster Club. Auctioning of the decorated Christmas trees is a fundraiser to help purchase new uniforms for the Carlisle Bison Band. Winning bidders will be announced at 6:30 p.m. at the fire station.
“Come bid on the Christmas Trees for the Carlisle Band Booster Club,” Chamber of Commerce President Judie Bariola said.
Line up for the parade will also begin at 6:30 p.m. at Riviana, 400 W. Main St., followed by the parade at 7 p.m. The parade proceeds east on Main Street to Court Street, and then went north on Court Street to the city park where it then make its way back to Main Street to Riviana. Due to the parade, some roads may be blocked or impassable during this time. Residents should find an alternate driving route while traveling through town during, before or after the parade.
Following the parade, Santa will available for pictures beginning at 7:30 p.m. at Fever’s Sassy Store.
Bariola said she would like encourages the public to come out and participate in the festivities. She said downtown business will also be open late, so residents should take the time to stop by and show your support for our local businesses.
