Today: Through the month of August, BancorpSouth in Carlisle will be collecting school supplies for children in need. Donations can be brought to the BancorpSouth branch.

Today: Bryson Harpole will present a program of country music and songs beginning at 10 a.m. in the Woodlawn Community Center, 10070 Arkansas Highway 31 north. Come early for a cup of coffee and bring a dish for potluck.

Today: The Lonoke Chamber of Commerce will meet at noon at the historic Lonoke Depot at High Noon. Speakers will be Amanda Rather, Lonoke High School District Coordinator, Doug Bost, Lonoke High School Football Coach, and Darrick Lowery, Lonoke Junior High School Football Coach. The luncheon will be catered by the Lone Oak Café consisting of: smothered roast beef with gravy, sautéed zucchini with onions, sweet baby carrots, mashed potatoes, fresh yeast rolls, banana pudding, bottled water and iced tea. Meal cost is $10

Today: A Homework Hotline Parental Involvement Event will be from 6 -7 p.m. at the Lonoke Carver Campus, old Middle School, located at 500 East Locust. Join us for hot dogs and drinks and receive information to sign up for free after school tutoring.

Monday: The Carlisle Chamber of Commerce will meet at noon in the Civic Center. Meal will be provided for $5.

Monday: Come make homemade laundry detergent at 5:15 p.m. at the Carlisle Public Library. This is an adult program. Bring an empty jug.

Monday: First grade open house will be from 5:30- 6:30 p.m. at Lonoke Primary school will be held in the Primary school gymnasium, followed by second grade open house from 6:45-7:45 p.m. Ninth grade open house will be at 6:30 p.m. at the Gina Cox Center, followed by grades 10 through 12 at 7:15 p.m.

Monday: The Lonoke City Council will meet at 6 p.m. in the courtroom at City Hall.

Monday: The Carlisle School Board will meet at 7:30 p.m. in the boardroom at the superintendent’s office.

Tuesday: Bingo for books for all ages will be from 3-4 p.m. at the Carlisle Public Library.

Tuesday: Lonoke Band Boosters is meeting on at 6:30 p.m.

Tuesday: Lonoke Middle School open house for sixth grade students will be from 6-7 p.m. Followed by open house for seventh and eight grade students from 7-8 p.m.

Tuesday: The Grand Prairie Civil War Round Table Meeting will be at 7 p.m. in the Lonoke County Museum, 215 South East Front Street in Lonoke. Please feel free to join us as David Costo, an Arkansas book author, brings our program. His topic is Arkansas Late in the Civil War; 8th Missouri Voluntary Cavalry: April 1864-July 1865. It was Casto’s great grandfather’s regiment and tells the side of the war from the Union perspective. All members of the GPCWRT are invited as are the Lonoke County Museum members as well as anyone that is interested in the Civil War. As always, there is no admission fee, and everyone is welcome to attend Casto’s presentation. Bring a few extra dollars as we will raffle off one of our books. Membership dues are still just $20 and new members are always welcome. Wednesday: Angry Birds War from 9:30 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. at the Carlisle Public Library. All ages are welcome to drop by and play.

Aug. 14: Drop in and meet Clifford the Big Red Dog from 2-5 p.m. at the Carlisle Public Library. Elementary ages welcome to the back to school party with Clifford.

Aug. 18: First day of school for Carlisle and Lonoke School Districts.

Aug. 18: The Lonoke School Board will meet at 6 p.m. at the Administration building.

Aug. 19: The Carlisle City Council will meet at 6 p.m. at the Civic Center.

Aug. 22: The American Red Cross will be accepting blood donations from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. at Red Oak Healthcare and Rehab, 1010 Barnes St. in Lonoke.

Aug. 27: The American Red Cross will be accepting blood donations from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at Gina Cox Center, 501 W. Academy in Lonoke.

Sept. 13: The Ward Chamber of Commerce invites everyone to this year’s annual Jamboree from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. at the Ward Chamber Community Center in Downtown Ward. This year’s headliner entertainment will be none other than local country recording artists Willie Ray & Smokin’ Guns. In addition to Willie Ray & Smokin’ Guns (www.willieraylive.com), there will be live entertainment all day long with bingo games; cake walks, and a silent auction. New to the Jamboree this year will be food vendors. There will also be crafts booths, product specific booths, and informational booths available all day long.
