Carlisle School Board hires new band director

The Carlisle School Board approved four new hires, including a band director, doing their board meeting on Monday.

They also approved the resignations of head football coach Brandon Barbaree, elementary cafeteria worker Shelly Bryant and pre-k aide Rebecca St. Clair.

The new band director is Joel Head, who previously worked as the band director at McCrory and left to get his master’s degree, said Superintendent Jason Clark.

The board also approved new hires of Brent Maddox as science teacher, Becky Perkins as high school librarian and Corbin Burton as student worker for the summer. Clark said Maddox has 14 years experience of teaching science and Perkins, who has been filling in as the librarian, will take two needed classes to be the librarian.

In other business, the board approved Benchmark Insurance as the student insurance provider for $17,325. The insurance is supplemental insurance if a student is hurt at school or during school activities.

Clark told board members six students chose Carlisle during school choice, but the district lost four current students. Current job openings, he said, are pre-k aide, cafeteria worker, high school counselor and head football coach/teacher.

The next board meeting will be at 7:30 p.m. July 14 in the administration building.
