The Boot Scootin’ Bash and 5k Dash April Fundraiser:
This fundraiser is one of two held each year to involve our community and raise funds to support our program. We are proud to announce that this will be our 7th Annual Boot Scootin’ Bash and 5k Dash April 27, 2013. We begin the day by opening our silent auction at 7:30am. Our auction consists of items we’ve secured through donation from our active parents or local businesses. We receive anything from movie tickets and dining gift certificates, to veterinary baskets complete with a free round of annual shots and flee, tick, and heartworm medications.
The 5k race begins at 8:00am sharp and this year we will be lucky enough to have a 1968 Corvette Convertible as our pace car for the race, graciously provided by Charles Ward who is also a member of the Beyond Boundaries board. We have both walkers and runners, both competitive and non-competitive participants and are looking to increase involvement in this fun and healthy activity.
While the race is coming to a close we begin our rider demonstrations at 8:30am. Our riders are clients that are seen for hippotherapy at our facility that volunteer to ride during our demonstrations. It’s a great way to involve our friends around whom our program is focused! Both the clients and the parents enjoy participating and it gives the audience a sense of what happens during an actual hippotherapy session. It promotes overall education and awareness regarding this very specialized therapeutic tool.
Throughout the event we feature free lunch and snacks provided by Arvest Bank, Subway, and Tropical Smoothie Jacksonville. We also host booths for other community based organizations and local businesses such as Easy Runner and Sherwood Jazzercise. Our event also includes various activities for children including Home Depot’s Kid’s Corner. The event is free, and there is an Option A $20.00 registration fee for our 5k participants which includes a runner’s gift bag and cotton race shirt. We also offer a $25.00 Option B registration that includes the registration fee, runner’s gift bag and an Under Armour t-shirt. We take this opportunity to host this event at our equine facility to raise awareness regarding our program and facilitate overall community outreach. We are honored to receive support from our community.
