Cabot’s Michael Smith drives to the basket against North Little Rock on Friday.
The Cabot Panthers ran up against a buzz saw in the North Little Rock Charging Wildcats on Friday.
No. 1 North Little Rock led 26-6 after one quarter en route to a 67-32 win over Cabot.
The Panthers are now 2-6 in 7A/6A-East play and 7-12 overall
North Little Rock led 2-0 on a dunk by Thomas Alexander. The Panthers tied the score at 2-2 on free throws by Ryan Stafford.
North Little Rock’s Dayshawn Watkins hit a three-pointer to make the score 5-2. Cabot cut the deficit to 4-2 on a basket by Bryan Shrum.
From there, the Charging Wildcats outscored Cabot 21-2 the rest of the quarter.

Michael Smith led Cabot with 10 points. Shrum added eight. Stafford scored six. Clayton Vaught added three. Adolpho Iglesias and Kyle Thielemier had two points each.
Cabot also lost a tough game at Little Rock Central on Jan. 29. The Tigers won 49-47.
Shrum had a shot at the buzzer but it rimmed out.
“We had a good look at the end … it just rimmed out on Shrum,” Cabot coach Jerry Bridges said. “I was really proud of him for trying to stick it.”
Central led 16-15 after one quarter but the Panthers rallied to lead 28-26 at halftime. The Tigers then led 37-25 after three quarters.
“I was really proud of how we played,” Bridges said. “If we keep doing that, there are some wins waiting on us.”
The game got away from the Panthers a bit in the fourth quarter after a technical foul on Hunter York turned into a five-point play for Central.
“Instead of being down one, we’re down six,” Bridges said. “We battled back and still almost did it.”
York led the Panthers with 14 points. He made four three-pointers. Thielemier had 10. Vaught added eight. Stafford scored seven. Jake Ferguson added three while Shrum and Igelsias had two points each.
