Cabot golfer Marlena Weatherly finished second in the Class 7A state golf tournament last week in Rogers.
Weatherly, a senior, shot a two-day total of 150, finishing three strokes behind Mount St. Mary’s Taylor Loeb.
As a team, the Lady Panthers finished seventh, shooting 546. Fayetteville won the state championship, shooting 488, winning by 10 strokes over Fort Smith Southside.
“I would call my performance more gratifying than sup rising,” Weatherly said. “Putting together two solid rounds together in a tournament of this status is what I’ve worked for this past season.”
Weatherly won the conference tournament two weeks ago.
“I know going into the conference tournament that I needed to post a strong number so not only myself but my team could advance to the state tournament. As it played out, my score, coupled with the outstanding efforts of my teammates was enough to allow us to play the second day. This experience will be valuable for all girls who had the chance to play.”
Cabot’s Ashley Stephens shot 193; Danielle O’Shields shot 203; Coral Byrns shot 224; Lauren Travis shot 230.
Cabot was in seventh place after the first day of competition, shooting 268.
Weatherly will play in the girls overall championship Oct. 17 at Pleasant Valley Country Club in Little Rock.
“I look forward to representing Cabot High School and my teammates at this event,” she said.
