Panthers receive postseason honors

Five Cabot Panthers football players were named to Class 7A all-state team.

They are seniors Heath Pledger, Keith Pledger, Zach Launius and Jake Vaughn and junior Jake Ferguson.

Launius rushed for 2,009 yards and 34 touchdowns on 277 carries. He also caught four passes for 48 yards. He completed his only pass attempt for 14 yards and a touchdown.

Vaughn had 71 tackles from his linebacker position despite missing four games. He had three tackles for losses and an interception.

The Pledger twins both played on the offensive line. They helped the Panthers rush for 4,574 yards and pass for 538 yards.

Keith Pledger, who was named the outstanding linemen for the 7A/6A-East, also had 13 tackles and two sacks. He punted 24 times for 964 yards — a 40.16 yard average.

Ferguson was second on the team in tackles with 87. He also led the team with five interceptions. He had two tackles for losses and a caused fumble. On offense, he led the team in receiving with 20 catches for 354 yards and six touchdowns. Ferguson returned 13 kickoffs for 266 yards.

Eight Panthers were named to the 7A/6A-East All-Conference first team. They are Heath Pledger, Keith Pledger, Launius, Ferguson, Vaughn, Tristan Bulice, Patrick Neyhart and Kason Kimbrell.

Bulice, a junior defensive linemen, had 77 tackles and a team-high 16 tackles for losses. He also had three recovered fumbles and two sacks.

Neyhart, a senior linebacker, led the Panthers with 109 tackles. he also had six tackles for losses, a caused fumble and two sacks.

Kimbrell, a senior quarterback, completed 37 of 66 passes for 524 yards and 10 touchdowns. He threw only three interceptions. He also rushed for 403 yards and five touchdowns on 73 carries.

Eight Panthers were named to the 7A/6A-East All-Conference second team. They are Blake Gibson, Martin Turner, Preston Jones, Chris Henry, Brandon Arthur, Colby Ferguson, Aaron Henry and Jordan Burke.

Gibson, a senior, started at center and deep snapper. Turner, a senior, also started on the offensive line.

Jones, a senior halfback, was second on the team in rushing with 691 yards on 81 carries. He also scored six touchdowns. He caught one pass for three yards.

Chris Henry, a senior halfback, rushed for 665 yards and seven touchdowns on 77 carries. He caught nine passes for 131 yards and three touchdowns. He returned seven kickoffs for 133 yards and 13 punts for 143 yards.

Arthur, a senior defensive tackle, had 60 tackles, three tackles for losses and a sack.

Colby Ferguson, a senior defensive back, had 75 tackles, including five for losses.

Aaron Henry, a senior defensive tackle, had 68 tackles, including five for losses. He had two sacks, a blocked kick and a recovered fumble.

Burke, a senior defensive back, had 65 tackles and two interceptions.
