Panthers get second in swim meet

The Cabot Panther swim team hosted their second invitational of the year, coming in a close second to the Conway Wampus Cats on Thursday.

The Panthers had swimmers place first in nine of the 12 events, but couldn’t quite out-point the Wampus Cats. Conway scored 519 points to Cabot’s 438. Lonoke was a distant third with 123 points.

As a team, Cabot won all three of the relays, coming in first in the 200-yard medley, 200-yard freestyle and 400-yard freestyle.

In the first individual event, Cabot’s Payton Jones won the 200-yard freestyle by a full six seconds. Kyle Beckley finished fifth, while Mo Masri finished seventh.

The 200-yard individual medley saw Cabot’s Jordan Woodson finish first, while Noah Joyner came in second.

Seth Fox won his first race of the day in the 50-yard freestyle. Brent Brockel finished third, while Ben Cameron came in tenth.

Payton Jones had a good showing in the 100-yard butterfly, while Brockel took first place in the 100-yard freestyle. Cameron came in seventh in the 100-yard freestyle, with Trent Shulta right behind in eighth place.

Jordan Woodson picked up his second first-place finish of the meet by winning the 500-yard freestyle. Beckley finished fourth for Cabot.

Fox also got another first-place finish when he easily won the 100-yard backstroke. Joyner won the 100-yard breaststroke, while Shulta came in fifth.
