Panther wrestlers do well in tourney

The Cabot Panther wrestling team had a good showing in the Greenbrier Panther Invitational over the weekend.

Cabot finished third in the team standings behind Little Rock Catholic and Conway.

The Panthers had two wrestlers take first place, three win second place and one finish in third in the tournament.

Austin Dye had a great day while taking the trophy in the 113 weight class. Dye won his first two matches by pin, then was dominant in the semifinals and finals, winning 7-0 and 8-2.

Erik Cooley was even more dominant while taking first place at 138 pounds. Cooley won his first match with a pin, had a 10-0 shutout, then won by pin in the final two matches.

Cameron Pitchford had another solid tournament, coming in second to Andrew Elmore of Little Rock Catholic in the 106 division.

Cody Pugh looked unstoppable at 160 until running into the state’s best wrestler in the finals. Pugh pinned his first two opponents in under 45 seconds. His semifinal match saw him win 15-7. In the finals, Tyler Mann of Little Rock Central got the pin to give Pugh a second place trophy. Mann is undefeated in his high school career and has signed with Oklahoma State University.

Michael Morgan also won a second place ribbon as a 145 pounder, winning two matches by pin, one 5-2 and then being outpointed in the finals.

Hayden Mills won his final two matches in the consolation bracket 15-0 and by pin to take third place in the 126 division.
