Lady Panthers win own tourney

The championship game wasn’t an offensive showcase, but the Cabot Lady Panthers showed enough to take down the Vilonia Lady Eagles 42-34 and win the Panther Pre-Holiday Tournament on Monday at Panther Arena.

Cabot led 17-9 and halftime and 23-14 after three quarters, then had to hold off a Vilonia comeback late in the fourth quarter.

The Lady Eagles pulled as close as five points in the fourth thanks to catching fire from beyond the arc.

Part of the reason Cabot held off the comeback was the terrific free throw shooting by the Lady Panthers. Cabot was 13 of 15 from the line in the fourth quarter. CoCo Calhoon scored nine of her game-high 19 points in the fourth.

Alyssa Hamilton and Danielle McWilliams each scored eight points for the Lady Panthers. Leighton Taylor scored four points, while Maddie Wilhite scored two points and Anna Sullivan added a free throw.

The Lady Panthers made it to the finals after dominating Bryant in the semifinals 49-32.

McWilliams had the hot hand against the Lady Hornets, leading the Lady Panthers with 18 points. Hamilton was also in double figures with 13 points.
