Lady Panthers win Eagle Bank Relays at Heber Springs

The Cabot Panthers and Lady Panthers track teams traveled to Heber Springs on Friday and came back with the overall first place trophy from the Eagle Bank Relays.

The Lady Panthers finished in first place, ahead of Lake Hamilton, while the Panthers finished third, just behind Searcy and Vilonia. The combined scores were enough to finish ahead of second-place Lake Hamilton and third-place Vilonia.

The Lady Panthers were again led by Tori and Lexi Weeks, who finished in the top three in six events. Tori finished first in the triple jump, first in the 300-meter hurdles, second in the pole vault and ninth in the 100-meter dash. Lexi was first in the pole vault, first in the 100-meter hurdles and third in the 200-meter dash.

Danielle McWilliams also had a first place finish, hers coming in the 400-meter dash. She finished seventh in the 100-meter dash.

The Lady Panthers relay teams took first place in both the 4x100 and 4x400 races, while taking fourth in the 4x800.

Katie Wright finished seventh in the high jump and in the shotput. Rachel Hall finished fifth in the 300-meter hurdles, Samantha Nickell was fifth in the 3,200-meter run, while Ashley Gore took eight in the same event. Marquetta Magwood finished ninth in the 100-meter hurdles.

On the boys side, Aaron Henry had a big day for Cabot, winning the discus and finishing third in shotput.

Layton Alley was runner-up in the 100-meter dash and finished seventh in the 200-meter dash. Hayden Richey was the final Panther to finish in the top 10 in two events, taking fifth in the 300-meter hurdles and 10th in the 110-meter hurdles.

Brandon Jones finished second in the discus, while Brayden Mercantel took fifth in the 1600-meter run. Rocky Burke was seventh in the pole vault, Jake Ferguson took eighth in the 200-meter dash, AJ McClean was 10th in the 800-meter run and Caleb Duerkop finished 10th in the 300-meter hurdles.

The Cabot relay teams finished third in both the 4x400 and 4x800 relays, while the team took fourth in the 4x100.

Cabot will host the 7A-Central conference meet Friday. The meet starts at 10:30 a.m. Cabot will host the Class 7A state track meet Thursday, May 7.
