Lady Panthers knock off West Memphis, still perfect in conference play

After a slow start, the Cabot Lady Panthers scored early and often in beating West Memphis 10-1 last week in 7A/6A-East action.

Scoring goals were Jessica Souza (2), Braxton Reed (2), McKenna Smart, Jamie Middleton, Leah Conley, Maddie Rice, Anna Applegate and Devin Patterson.

With the win, Cabot is now 5-0 in conference play.

Cabot attacked West Memphis’ goal straight away with 10 chances in the first 15 minutes before the Lady Panthers found the back of the net.

“From there, we found our way to goal in as fast as 15 seconds,” Cabot coach Kerry Castillo said. “Some of our more impressive scores were Maddie Rice playing a brilliant no look pass to Jessica Souza through 3 defenders and Jessica finished it up beating the keeper 1 on 1.

“Devin Patterson also scored a great header from a corner driven in by Codee Park.”

Cabot led 8-0 at halftime.

West Memphis’ lone goal came late.

“We have Jonesboro and Searcy left to play in conference,” Castillo said. “We’re in contention for the girls’ program’s first conference title. It’s an exciting time for us and we’re looking forward to the next two conference matches.”

Cabot 5, Central 0

The Cabot Lady Panthers avenged a scoreless tie in non-conference play with a 5-0 win over Little Rock Central at Quigley Stadium on April 9.

Cabot led 1-0 following a goal from Codee Park.

Jessica Souza scored the Lady Panthers’ second goal.

Souza scored Cabot’s third goal before Braxton Reed scored the final two Cabot goals.
