The bats came alive in a big way last week for the Cabot Lady Panthers in a pair of wins over Marion and West Memphis.
Against Marion, it took a little while for the offense to get going, but Cabot ran away with a 13-6 win once it did. The win over West Memphis came a little easier in a 17-2 blowout.
The Lady Panthers trailed the Marion Lady Patriot 3-1 heading into the fifth inning when they began to take control.
Rachel Allgood led off the inning with a single, followed by a singled from Erin Eckert. Both would later score on passed balls. Heather Hill drew a walk and scored on a double by Molly Wood as Cabot took the lead.
Marion tied the score in bottom of the inning, but fell apart in the final two innings. The Lady Panthers score four runs in the sixth and five more in the seventh, despite only one of those runners reaching base on a hit. Allgood singled and scored, Eckert scored twice after reaching on an error and fielder’s choice. Hannah Montgomery, Lane Justus, Kaitlyn Felder, Lauren McCluskey and Hill all scored as the Lady Panthers took control of the game.
The West Memphis win was never in doubt as Cabot jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the first inning and never looked back.
Hill and Felder each went 3 for 4 to lead the Lady Panthers. Felder had three doubles, reached on an error and scored four runs. Hill had a double, two singles and scored three runs.
Macee Abbott had a big day with a triple, single and two runs scored. Wood had a pair of singles and scored a run, while Eckert scored three runs on a single, walk and reaching on an error.
Brandyn Vines had one hit, but made the most of it by roping a home run. Allgood didn’t have a hit, but scored two runs after reaching on an error and a walk.
McCluskey didn’t allow a baserunner until the fourth inning while earning the win.
