Lady Panthers fall to NLR

NORTH LITTLE ROCK — Any time Cabot and North Little Rock play each other in girls basketball, it is usually an ugly game. Friday night’s 7A/6A-East opener was no exception.

North Little Rock held off a late Cabot run to beat the Lady Panthers 50-40. Cabot is now 9-6 on the season.

Cabot never led in the game, trailing 15-11 after one quarter.

The Lady Panthers pulled to within one at 15-14 on a free throw by CoCo Calhoun and a basket by Alyssa Hamilton. North Little Rock made a run in the second quarter to lead 30-21 at halftime.

Cabot trailed 34-27 after a basket by Anna Sullivan with 2:30 left in the third quarter. The Lady Charging Wildcats then scored six in a row to lead 40-27 with 4:31 left in the game.

After trading baskets, Cabot trailed 42-29 with 4:09 left. The Lady Panthers then scored eight in a row to trail 42-37 with 1:36 left.

Calhoun started the run with a basket with 3:51 left. Sullivan scored four in a row before Hamilton scored the final points of the run.

Cabot had a chance to get closer after a North Little Rock turnover however the Lady Panthers missed a layup with 1:22 left.

From there, North Little Rock scored six in a row to lead 48-37 with 52.4 seconds left to put the game away.

Hamilton led Cabot with 17 points. Sullivan scored 12. Calhoun had six. Scoring two each were Leighton Taylor and Maddie Willhite. Rachel Allgood added a free throw. Hamilton led Cabot with 11 rebounds. Calhoun had three assists.

Kyra Collier led North Little Rock with 15 points. Malica Monk had 12.

Cabot 45, Bryant 34

The Cabot Lady Panthers held off Bryant for a 45-34 win last week.

Cabot led 9-8 after one quarter and 23-8 at halftime. The Lady Panthers pushed the lead to 41-14 after three quarters.

Bryant outscored Cabot 20-4 in the fourth quarter but it wasn’t enough to win the game.

CoCo Calhoun led Cabot with 15 points. Alyssa Hamilton scored 12. Lakyn Crumbly had five. Leighton Taylor and Anna Sullivan had four points each. Rachel Allgod scored three. Emily McCaghren scored two. Hamilton led Cabot with eight rebounds.

Cabot 46, Morrilton 32

Cabot knocked off Class 5A power Morrilton 46-32 on Jan. 3.

Cabot led 11-6 after one quarter 22-16 at halftime.

Alyssa Hamilton led Cabot with 14 points. CoCo Calhoun scored 13. Anna Sullivan added 11. Leighton Taylor scored six. Lakyn Crumbly scored two.

Hamilton led Cabot with 10 rebounds. Calhoun had five assists.

Mansfield Invitational

The Cabot Lady Panthers traveled to Texas to play in the Spring Creek Barbecue Mansfield Invitational Tournament after Christmas.

The Lady Panthers beat North Crowley 51-33 in the first round of the tournament Dec. 26.

CoCo Calhoun led Cabot with 12 points. Leighton Taylor scored 11. Anna Sullivan added seven. Scoring six each were Danielle McWilliams and Alyssa Hamilton. Maddie Willhite had three. Scoring two each were Sarah Davis, Claire Eifling and Lily Sinclair.

Cabot lost to Timberview 43-27 in the second round Dec. 27.

Calhoun led Cabot with 13 points. McWilliams and Hamilton had three points each. Taylor, Lakyn Crumbly, Willhite and Sullivan had two points each.

Cabot then lost to Springdale Har-Ber 50-45 before dropping a 54-39 decision to North Shore in the last game.

In the loss to North Shore, Sullivan led the Lady Panthers with 11 points. Taylor had eight. Calhoun scored seven. Rachel Allgood and Willhite had five points each. Emily McCaghren scored two. Davis added a free throw.
