Cabot Lady Panthers soccer coach Kerry Castillo was an assistant coach for the East squad for the second time during his three-year tenure at Cabot. The Arkansas High School Coaches Association All-Star Soccer Game was held June 19 at John McConnell Stadium in Conway.

The game was scoreless after 80 minutes of play. The West won the penalty kick shootout 4-3.

“Just being around kids who love the game and will sacrifice their free time to come play with a bunch of coaches they don’t know … it’s a tremendous amount of fun getting to coach a new group, learning as much from them as they do from us,” Castillo said after the game. “You get to see the purest part of the game and that is the bond the game can create among a group of people.”

Castillo said it was a good game.

The East played with essentially 14 players while the West had 22.

“In this game, a pair of fresh legs can win it for you,” Castillo said. “I think that speaks volumes for the kids, knowing they were outnumbered like that. Yet, they worked together and continued to play hard, regardless of how tired they were.”
