The Cabot junior varsity Lady Panthers took the field for a doubleheader against the Vilonia Lady Eagles on Tuesday and came away with a pair of solid wins in softball.
Cabot defeated Vilonia 8-1 and 5-2 in the sweep.
The 8-1 win saw the Lady Panthers put together a huge fourth inning, batting around while scoring seven runs in the inning.
After a walk and errors got the inning started for the Lady Panthers, the bats came alive in a big way. Lane Justus singled and was followed by consecutive doubles from Hannah Montgomery and Heather Hill. Kaitlyn Felder struck the biggest blow by following those hits with a deep home run as the Lady Panthers ran away with the win.
The defense played a solid game behind winning pitcher Montgomery, keeping the Lady Eagles in check.
Cabot’s 5-2 win took a little more work, as the Lady Panthers were trailing 2-1 heading into the final inning. Cabot scored four runs in the top of the fifth inning, then held Vilonia scoreless for the win.
Shauna Attendorn got the fifth started by reaching on a fielder’s choice, then scored when Lauren McCluskey drilled a home run. Marlee Munford reached on an error, then came around to score as Payton Steadman and Montgomery connected on back-to-back doubles.
Munford came in to pitch the bottom of the fifth inning and retired the Lady Eagles in order to secure the win.
